gossamer stars

When the Gossamer Stars pattern became available at the Interweave Store, I decided to knit a sample, or rather, one for myself (!) in lace weight yarn.
Knit Picks Alpaca Cloud, in the Cha Cha color speaks of summer to me, it’s light, affordable – and REALLY cheerful -, and who doesn’t want to feel happy while knitting? I thought of working a border in blue but decided to keep the look all about sparking lights, glowing candlelight, citrus and mango.
Looking at the lace color cards from Knit Picks, I’m dreaming of two or three other lace patterns, one with an earthy, hand carved vibe, the other ethereal and insect inspired, and another that is about polka dots, and spider webs.
Last night, when the house was at its hottest; I blocked the lumpy orange pile of scarf. It only took a few minutes to dry. Before its transformation the dimensions were 13 1/4″ x 56″ and after 13″ x 74″. It definitely wanted to grow longer. When I pinned it out, I stretched the width to 15″, but it bounced right back to its original width.
Because the yarn is so light, it wears like a shawl, perfect for a warm summer evening. This was my travel knitting and it served its purpose well, the pattern is simple and easily memorized and made for good car and beach knitting.

modifications: 88 grams of yarn and US 4 / 3.5mm needle, I cast on 85 sts, and worked rows 1 – 56, 5 times for each side plus rows 1 – 14, for each side.

it’s extra gorgeous … so lovely
i really like how the stitches stand out with the alpaca – and the width seems perfect to me.
and so cute how the pattern on your top goes with lace design.
can’t wait to see your next lace designs – i’ve been looking at insect wings lately and seeing lace

LOVE. And the top underneath too. Although how you call it easy and easily memorized–hmmm–for some-one with special Kat Coyle skills perhaps!!!

I’m working on my scarf and it is…….not quite easy but most certainly not too tricky. I thought lace would be all about slogging through but enjoying the end product, thankfully I was wrong. I’m enjoying the knitting too

You’ve written such a fabulous pattern! I can’t wait to knit one for myself, one day, when my wips pile goes down…
And that colour is just plain juicy.
