I did, without much thinking about it, because Carrie’s blog, swatch diaries, is one of my favorite places to visit. Her photography always inspires me. So, I knew, her booklet, swatch diaries, volume one, away/japan, would be a great way to bring some of her art into my home.
There is a wonderful sensitivity to the photographs that brought to mind a dreamy kind of loneliness that I used to get when I traveled, and I imagined taking photographs during the day, and knitting alone at night. Obviously, these are my fantasies. In the description of the book, Carrie writes that she did the knitting back home while reminiscing about Japan. I love how calm, and peaceful the images are, and how natural the flow between swatch knitting and photography blend. There is a silent conversation between the two that leaves me meditative…contemplating texture, light and color.
Oh, and she includes a lovely knitting pattern too, Kashihara Cowl.
