South Africa does a lot of embroidery. The popular wall hangings for tourists are animals done in colour shaped blocks. I could try to email you a pic of the two I have, if you would like. 
They remind me of some of the work my father picked up in South America - although they used fabric blocks, instead of embroidery.</description>
