babette blanket revived

Posted on | May 21, 2010 | 12 Comments

During spring cleaning I uncovered a wip, Babette Blanket by Kathy Merrick, that had started with so much promise, and now TWO YEARS later, it was still languishing at the bottom of a basket.

In the last couple of days I sewed sections 1 – 6 together and finished crocheting section 7.
As incentive, I decided it will live in the living room on the couch. Johnny and Felix approve and are excited about seeing all the happy colors.

The pattern is very simple, but I find that I spend a lot of time choosing the colors for each square. Which is funny, because it looks pretty random.
Here are two inspiration shots for color combinations…from my friend Lisa’s garden…

That’s the beauty of such a project (or a Barn Raising Quilt), it is so patient down at the bottom of the basket… and so pretty too!

well if that isn’t the most perfect spot for a perfectly stunning afghan I don’t know what is. The care you put in the colors shows.

Forgive me, but your Babette kick’s the original Babette’s sorry ass. (And I love the original Babette.)

your care with the colors really does show! it all works together so well. i love it all. the square with the purple/orange/pink combination reminds me of India and the hot color combinations found in saris.

I was just thinking about this last week, and I actually wondered, at that time, if you ever finished it! I’m so glad to see it here. It’s gorgeous. I so want to make it for my little granddaughter. Beautiful!
